Sugar is a made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. This combination is the reason why sugar is so addictive and keeps us  away from being healthy and fit.

You may be wondering why would you need sugar detoxification? Here are a few reasons why I think it has held you back from getting fit and healthier:

  • sugar causes your body to store more fat and ruins your weight loss efforts
  • sugar destroys your skin and teeth
  • sugar slows down the metabolism which makes you put on weight
  • sugar spikes your insulin level giving you a burst of energy for a short while but as soon as it runs out you feel totally knackered

Do I need to cut out sugar completely ?

Starting your day with a tiny amounts of sugar in your green tea or coffee is good because it makes your brain works faster. But that is it!  Every piece of sugary treats after that will eventually become stomach fat and I think as a mum you know, stomach fat is the hardest to burn off as it comes off last!

So avoid it at all cost!!

We discussed in our previous blog posts that it is much better to start dieting  after cleansing your body.  From personal experience, I found that a detox  will make your body ready for the new healthy lifestyle and give you much better results. 

It will also make you feel more energised, less lethargic all the time and more importantly help you lose weight faster!

Here is a suggestion on how to do a 3-Day Sugar Detox Diet:

DAY 1 Sugar Detox:

Breakfast:

A cup of oats with berries and seeds (you can replace the seeds with almonds).

OR choose 3 scrambled eggs.

Snack:

A small amount of nuts (make sure it is one handful).

Lunch:

Boiled chicken breast with a bowl full of squash, carrots, beans, beets, parsnips and you can add almonds.

Dinner:

Cooked fish and a bowl of green pieces.

OR you can eat salmon with broccoli and mushrooms.

DAY 2 Sugar Detox:

Breakfast:

A cup of oats with berries and seeds (you can replace the seeds with almonds).

OR choose 3 scrambled eggs with spinach.

Snack:

A small amount of nuts (make sure it is one handful).

Lunch:

Grilled or boiled zucchini with red and yellow peppers and a dressing made of lemon and vinegar.

OR Salad made of red cabbage, parsley and shredded carrots. Its dressing is lemon juice salt and olive oil.

Dinner:

A salad of green vegetables of your choice and a bean soup.

OR choose baked cod and stir-fried sprouts and turnips.

DAY 3 Sugar Detox:

Breakfast:

A cup of oats with berries and seeds (you can replace the seeds with almonds).

OR choose 3-egg omelet with shrimp and spinach kale, radish and walnut salad.

Snack:

A small amount of nuts (make sure it is one handful).

Lunch:

Roasted chicken with rosemary, sage and lemon.

OR choose roasted chicken with onion and black olives.

Dinner:

Mushrooms with a sauce of garlic, onion, celery, thyme and carrots.

OR penne pasta (made of brown rice) with mushrooms tomato meat sauce and basil.

Drinks… you’ll need to consume strictly sugar-free stuff during this detox period. But make sure you drink 3 cups of green tea daily to make the detox more effective. You can have no more than 1 cup of black coffee, sugar-free. Water, sugar-free juices of berries, grapefruit, strawberries and oranges would be good once a day too.

Why this diet?

This diet contains carbohydrates that are easily broken down in your body. In this condition, your body “learns” how to use the fats that already exist in your belly. Foods like this, which are easily broken down in your body, help your digestive system bounce back up, so it wastes less energy digesting the food you eat. And that saved energy in your digestive tract then positively affects your overall energy level and mood.
